Nestled in the heart of Ciutat Vella, this tapas bar offers a warm, bustling atmosphere that captures the vibrant spirit of Valencia’s old town. Visitors here tend to come for a relaxed experience of small plates and drinks, with a particular draw being the variety of seafood tapas, ranging from garlic prawns to calamari, alongside traditional flavors like anchovies in vinegar. The menu pairs well with a great selection of beer and coffee, making it a versatile spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The seating includes a casual outdoor area along the street, where you can soak in the lively neighborhood vibe—though it’s worth noting the occasional interruptions from local street vendors. Inside, the vibe is cozy and casual, suited to solo diners, groups, and even families, thanks to accessibility features and a welcoming attitude toward kids.
Service generally comes with a friendly touch, often patient with guests embracing the language and culture, adding to the grounded local feel. The place feels lived-in and genuine, more laid-back than polished, with a setting that blends historic charm and a trendy casualness. It’s a spot where college students, tourists, and locals can gather for a quick bite or a lazy meal over wine, beer, or something stronger, enjoying both the food at the bar and table service.
While it doesn’t offer delivery, its combination of dine-in, takeout, and outdoor seating options makes it flexible for different moods and occasions. Practical amenities such as card payments and wheelchair-accessible entrances contribute to its approachable character. "Everything cool, food staff price until I found a hair in my plate..."
"Also, DONT TAKE AWAY THE MENU WHEN PEOPLE HAVEN’T FINISHED ORDERING."
"A nice place to have hot-stone self-cooked beef cutlet or lamb chops."
5 Rustic, Authentic, Bustling Spanish Vibe - Had our last meal in Spain here and it was delicious! Had the paella, anchovies in vinegar, calamari, garlic prawns - it was all very good!
5 Service with a smile here, and whilst we were encouraging our children to use the Spanish language they've been learning at school, the waiter was very patient and encouraging. The food was good too, arrived fairly quickly and we demolished it all. Would recommend.
5 Great stop for some beer and tapas. We were seated on the street, which is cool, but mind the frequent interruptions from street “vendors”.
5 We got the hint from a tour guide for good spanish food - and we were not disappointed! The food was absolutely perfect, we had different kinds of Tappas, mostly seafood! Delicious! Furthermore, the price was very ok, for example a large beer (0.5l) less than 4€ Last, the staff was very nice and friendly. I can absolutely recommend!
5 Super good, fresh cooked food. Very tasty & delicious. Fair prices. The waiter could be a little bit more relaxed and friendly. Would do great to the Ambiente. Toilettes miss on shine. Have been little messy while we have been there. Hand blower defect. Other than - we would go here anytime again.
5 Good service, delicious food and fair price. Had the fried calamari as tapas and the portion is quite big, can easily eat 2 people from one calamari tapas. It comes with bread to have it as a bocadillo and a tasty alioli sauce. I recommend this place for some late night tapas!
5 Really loved this little restaurant. Great service from the waiters. It can get very busy, but they always are very attentive. They have menus in Spanish and English. During my stay I had the Boquerones, Tellinas, Bocadillo de Calemares (which they gave me as a take away for the train ride), Patatas Bravas y Croquetas. The Agua de Valencia was a great drink. They also offer breakfast but I am more of a coffee in the morning person. The atmosphere is improved by the Buskers playing music during the dinner service. Because I was traveling alone I didn't get to try half the menu. Can't wait to repeat the visit with the family. Well worth a visit.
5 Los Tonelos is a very authentic restaurant and a great place to experience local food. The place is nice and has a warm, traditional atmosphere. The food is very good, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with care. The service is fast and friendly, which makes the experience even better. You can’t reserve a table, so you have to wait in line, but it’s worth it. You should definitely try it.
Los Toneles specializes in authentic Spanish tapas, especially seafood dishes like paella, calamari, and garlic prawns.
You can enjoy both here: it’s great for a casual, cozy sit-down or a quick stop at the bar for small plates and drinks.
